Preventing Summer Injuries

Get the Sun-Kissed Look

by Jessie Fewson

Summer is here and that means it’s time to get your Glow on! We have all seen celebrities with that flawless skin and glowing cheeks and beachy waves that make us swoon. Here are some tips to achieve that look so you can be bronzed and flawless all summer long!

  1. To start this look, make sure your skin is clean and well moisturized (an SPF moisturizer is best to prevent damage from sun and free radicals). Lightly apply foundation, making sure that the foundation is the correct shade. If you feel like your foundation is too heavy, opt for a BB or CC cream instead, these will give you light coverage without feeling heavy. Next, use a tiny bit of concealer if you have any under eye circles or blemishes that you want to cover.
  2. Use a bronzer to sweep over the contours of the face (around the top of the forehead, under the cheekbones, along the jawline, and on the side of the nose.)
  3. Next use a blush (a warm coral shade is best) and add a small amount of color to the cheeks. Cream blush is a great option for this look as it gives a radiant glow and dewy finish.
  4. For the final touch add some highlighter (gold tone is great for summer) to the top of the cheekbones, down the center of the nose, and just above the lips (this gives the illusion of fuller lips). As mentioned with the blush, a cream highlighter is a great option for summer; a great highlighter is the cherry on top when it comes to a bronze beauty look. Although it is tempting to finish with powder, you definitely want to skip it for this look- the dewier the better!

This look is all about a glossy pout. Forget the lip liner and matte lipsticks and grab a gloss to create those dewy summer lips. A nude shade is the most flattering when creating a bronze look, try opting for a gloss 1-2 shades darker than your natural lip, having the gloss too pale or flesh toned can pale out the look. If you want a bit of extra dazzle, choose a nude gloss with a bit of gold shimmer.

If you want a more dramatic look try a bronze or gold smoky eye, this look is flattering on anyone. Apply eyeliner along the top lash line (a thin line is best) and then top it off with your favorite mascara. For something more subtle, use a soft shimmery shadow on the main lid (you can also use highlighter to achieve this look), skip the eyeliner, and apply a couple of coats of mascara.

  1. To get those lovely beachy summer waves, spray a salt spray or beach spray on damp hair and blow-dry.
  2. Next using a large barrel curling iron, take small sections of hair and curl them in alternating directions.
  3. Finish by running your fingers through your hair to separate the curls, this gives that nice wave effect. The salt spray should give enough texture to hold the curls so you shouldn’t need to use hairspray. Also remember that for this look the curls should be loose and flowing rather than tight molded curls.

With these simple steps you will be flawless, sun-kissed, and ready to hit the beach!
