What is the hardest part about being a mother?
Trying not to be everything to everyone.

What is the best part about being a mother?
Developing a relationship with these amazing people that are my kids. I love learning life lessons from their innocence. They teach me to be patient and not take life so serious. In the big scheme of life most of what we worry about really doesn’t matter. The relationship is what will be there for our entire life!

Tell us your favorite story about one of your kids.
It was just after Christmas and our son Jaxson had gotten a new backpack from his aunt for Christmas. We had three boys from Safe Families staying with us for a few weeks. The oldest boy *Joe (name changed) was also in the 2nd grade but at another school. It was time for all the boys to do homework and Joe went and pulled his homework from a plastic grocery bag. Jaxson asked if he forgot his backpack. He said “no, I don’t have a backpack.” Jaxson immediately went and gave his new backpack to Joe. Very proud mommy moment!

What is your favorite time-saver?
Grilling an entire 5 pound bag of chicken when you have the grill already going. It’s amazing how quickly you can throw something together for dinner when you already have the chicken cooked. Chicken nachos, chicken fajitas, chicken salad, chicken sandwich or chicken piccata. The list goes on and all made quickly when you have the chicken already cooked and available.

What is your favorite sanity-saver?
I’m partial to Margaritas during the summer! Just kidding! My favorite sanity-saver is a date night with my husband.

What is your philosophy on discipline?
Only one major rule at our house to remember and that’s respect. Respect yourself (brushing their teeth, showering), respect for each other (trying to not fight), respect for our home (keeping their room clean). When that rule is broken in some way then there are consequences for the action. We try to hold our kids accountable and show love at the same time. We believe that everything is about the relationship you have with your kids. Rules without that relationship equals chaos.

What is your favorite local family place?
We love to take all the kids and spend a weekend at the KOA Mount Rushmore. It’s become a summer tradition and it’s a great way to disconnect from the world for a while. Lots of laughter and s’mores!

What is your favorite parenting must-have?
Cozi is the must-have organizer for families. It helps coordinate and communicate everyone’s schedules and activities, track grocery lists, manage to do lists, plan ahead for dinner, and keep the whole family on the same page.

Name a time when you felt like a parenting genius.
My son Jaxson has horrible allergies and takes a pill every day. He could not…would not swallow the pill. So I put it inside a spoonful of applesauce and it goes down with no issues now! He’s amazed that he can’t tell it’s in there.

I could have won the worst mother award when...
My daughter Lily woke up and said she didn’t feel well. I told her to be tough and go to school anyway. I got a call from the school nurse that afternoon saying she was running a fever. I picked her up and took her to the doctor to find out she had pneumonia. BAD MOMMY!
