What is the hardest part about being a mother?

As mothers, I think we can be too hard on ourselves especially when things don’t go as planned. We can’t control everything and we all make mistakes. Set an example for your kids by handling these times with integrity as things always seem to work out in the end.

What is the best part about being a mother?

Being blessed to be able to watch my kids grow into wonderful parents and caring adults.

Tell us a favorite story about one of your kids.

My favorite stories involved all of us making mealtime a must so we could all catch-up and visit about our day. Lots of laughs and sometimes tears were shared around our dinner table.

What is your favorite time-saver?

Making a bi-weekly dinner menu. It saves time shopping as you make a list of the ingredients needed in your menu and it also helped me make sure I had a variety of nutritious meals ready in the evening. Crock pot dinners are always a real time saver when you work outside of the home.

What is your favorite sanity saver?

Getting up in the morning and sharing coffee with my husband, we read the Bible or a daily devotional before we head off to work.

What is your philosophy on discipline?

Parents’ rules are sometimes hard for kids to understand, but we always made them out of love. We told our kids that we are all different individuals with different opinions. Everyone has a right to express their opinions, but it must be done respectfully.

What is your favorite local family place?

We are truly blessed to live in such a beautiful place. We loved taking our kids to the city parks throughout the hills. Storybook Island, Dinosaur Park along with the Air and Space Museum were always favorites, and they are also favorites with our Grandkids now!

What is your favorite parenting must have?

A magnetic white board on the refrigerator posting the week’s activities. It helps organize everyone’s schedules especially with kids’ extracurricular activities. We still use one to keep our schedules organized and with our Grandkids’ activities.

Name a time when you felt like a parenting genius.

Watching our grown children use the same rules they had growing up with their kids now. Even though they may not have liked those rules growing up.

I could have won the worst mother award when ...

I think we all have times when we think we fall short as parents, whether we forgot something, made a mistake or embarrassed our kids. Whatever it may have been we are all human, show your kids it’s OK. No one is perfect and we learn and grow the most in these moments.
