The Girl Gives Back

Describe the organization you volunteer for and your roles in the foundation.

I have been very fortunate to be able to volunteer for Black Hills Works at the Suzie Cappa Art Center. I help encourage the artist to meet their full potential in whatever medium they enjoy.

Tell us something about the journey that led you to the organization.

I grew up in Rapid City, so I was aware of the Black Hills Works organization. When I moved back to Rapid City I was looking into learning to do some art. I met Brad Winter and he invited me to be part of the team. I started at the Range Road facility, which quickly grew into the Suzie Cappa Art Center downtown.

What motivates you to stay involved?

The artists, my friends, keep me motivated to stay involved. I love to see them succeed in their endeavors. This is the happiest place I have ever worked.

Describe one of your favorite moments you’ve experience while volunteering.

My favorite moments are when an artist tells me one of their works sold. They are so proud to be actual artists. We also get a lot of joy giving back to the community. It is very rewarding to see them grow.

Why do you believe it is important to volunteer?

I get to learn new things every time I am at the Art Center. The days I get to help out the artists are my happiest days. I believe I get back tenfold what I put in by volunteering.
